SUPER SATURDAY 14, The Rolls-Royce of Garage Sales
With Kelly Ripa, Emma Roberts, Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman and InStyle
Watermill, N.Y., July 30, 2011. The windless over 90 degree temperature day did not stop the shoppers from attending the appropriately dubbed, "world famous Rolls-Royce of Garage Sales" held in the field at Nova's Ark Project in Watermill. This is an event that Hamptonites, mainly women, look forward to every year. Emma Roberts and Kelly Ripa along with Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman and InStyle hosted the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund's (OCRF) 14th annual Super Saturday event.
Dyson's stand sold out first, then Jimmy Choo. When I arrived, I only got to see the boxes of Jimmy Choo's that were purchased and awaiting pick-up. Over 200 prominent designers participated including Donna Karan, Pratesi, Ralph Lauren, Theory, Robert Rodriguez, Diane von Furstenberg, Juicy Couture, Elizabeth & James and many more. The Designers A to Zoe booth by Rachel Zoe featured designs from Kara Ross, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Elise Overland, Jean Paul Gautlier and others.
There was something for everyone. QVC made the event available to shoppers nationwide. Votra Vu French Spa Station helped comfort shoppers with skin care, people relaxed at the InStyle Cabana, the Color Club Color Bar offered manicures, the Home Market tent was a hit with discounted designer furniture. There were rides, games, arts & crafts, Wendy the Pipe Cleaning Lady, Face Painting, Balloons and entertainment for the children. There was food and drinks galore. Zico coconut water stations, Voss stations, a grand buffet, Crumbs cupcakes, teas and a delicious Sant Ambroeus spread of desserts.
My big break came when I was admiring the Haitian made photos that I am holding in the picture below at Donna Karan's booth. It was great to see DKNY supporting Haiti. Her booth was selling "Heart of Haiti" picture frames created from the ashes of Haiti. Shortly after taking this photo, a sales person said, "Everything at the DKNY booth is $25." I was shocked but quickly moved to action to seek out what I could grab that would fit me. How exciting, $25 for a $2500 gown! Now that is a good deal.
Super Saturday was created in 1998 by Donna Karan, the late Liz Tilberis and OCRF's President, Faith Kates Kogan. In 2010, Super Saturday raised $3.4 million for the OCRF.
Super Saturday 14 raised $3.5 million for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to help fund ovarian cancer research, a cancer that causes more than 15,000 deaths each year in the U.S. alone. To contribute or learn more go to http://www.ocrf.org.
