Donna Karan Presents Super Saturday "12" Benefitting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund August 1, 2009

Watermill, N.Y. August 1, 2009. Super Saturday has been dubbed the biggest designer garage sale for many years. This year was no different. Nova’s Ark Project in Watermill is a huge field owned by artists Tundra and Luna that was turned into a designer sale to benefit The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund http://www.ocrf.org . Hosts were Ariel Foxman, Kelly Ripa and Blake Lively.

I attend every year and briefly wonder why I am shopping in the middle of a field in the hot fiery sun in near hundred degree temperatures. Aaaah, my question was quickly answered this year as I headed for the Vera Wang area and purchased one of her creations that would have retailed for $675 for a mere $200. I attend for the incredible bargains. Nothing can stop those of us who are self proclaimed ‘shop-a-holics’ from completing our mission; to find the best buys and do it in the name of a wonderful charity. We will brave the sun, put on our hats, sun glasses, and comfortable walking shoes for this. Many of us wear body suits so we can quickly try things on (there are no changing rooms.) It is also a fun people watching event. The longer one stays the better the mark downs are provided the item is still there.

Speaking of people watching; I saw Russell Simmons with his children, Michael Lohan talking about a new reality TV show he is thinking of launching, PR guru Ken Sunshine was speaking highly of Every Baby, Inc., Christie Turlington, Faith and Jeffrey Kogan (Chairpersons), Kelly Ripa and Mark Conseolus, Tommy Motola, Ali Lohan, and mother, Rachel Zoe, Barbara Walters with Rudolph and Judith Giuliani. To view more photos of celebrities in attendance go to http://www.patrickmcmullan.com .

There were 163 designer garage sale participants this year ; Donna Karan of course, Carmen Marc Valvo who attended as well, Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers Betsey Johnson, Ralph Lauren, Helmut Lang, La Perla, Valentino, Nicole Miller and on and on.

We were well taken care of by beverage and food sponsors. Pinkberry was a welcome newcomer this year, along with Sant Ambroeus, my new favorite drink OOBA, Tate’s, Crumbs, Carvel, Good Ole’ Pepsi, Voss, Juicy Naam, Bud Light Lime, Perrier Jouet and more. We must have energy to shop.

IN Style was the Super Sponsor providing fans, mini make-up touch ups, hair braiding and misting. Soulcycle provided pedicures, Essie gave manicures. If anyone brought kids along there was a Divalysscious Camp with Go Green Arts and Crafts and activities, ‘SFC’ Spirituality for Kids, a Video Arcade, carnival rides and Nintendo Games.

It was a fun afternoon and more crowded than I ever saw it. I think it was a success! Congratulations to all of you who helped this worthy charity.
