36th Annual Hampton Classic, September 4, 2011 : The Hampton Classic, A Family Tradition

Bridgehampton, NY September 4, 2011. The 36th Annual Hampton Classic proved to be just that, a Classic. The event, traditionally signifies the end of summer in the Hamptons. This year, it signified the end of Hurricane Irene and took place as always, in spite of her. New York City's Mayor Bloomberg and his long time girlfriend, Diana Taylor were there. My children, Justin and Alana, along with their friend Liam, got to talk to him for a bit. We look forward to attending the Classic every year and have done so for as long as I can recall, it is a family tradition. Alana rode leadline and won a blue ribbon at the Classic at the tender age of 5, so it holds special memories for us. We were happy to be amongst the guests of James Lipton and his lovely wife Kedakai.

The $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI Worldcup winner for the 3rd consecutive year and 6th time was McLain Ward of Brewster, NY.

The Hampton Classic always brings out the best of the best. For some of us, it is a great reason to wear a hat. In attendance were Rudy and Judith Giuliani, David and Sybil Yurman, James and Kedakai Lipton, Riki Shaw, Rosanna Scotto and family, Jill Rappaport, Matt Lauer, Howard Lorber, Neil Sroka, B. Smith, Jean Shafiroff, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley, Nancy Moon, Cassandra Seidenfeld Lyster, Rod and Judy Gilbert, Marcy Warren, Avis Richards, Nacho Figueras, Marty Bauman, Rick and Kathy Hilton and VIP's too countless to mention. Art for Life, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation's 12th Annual Benefit July 30, 2011 : Art for Life, "The Zen of Giving", Rush Philanthropic Art Foundation's 12th Annual East Hampton Benefit

East Hampton, N.Y. July 30, 2011. It was a pleasure to serve on Rush Philanthropic's 12th Annual benefit committee. This was my 4th time in attendance and I must say, the best Art for Life benefit yet. Then again, each year that I attend I say the same thing. It just keeps getting better and bigger. More importantly it is a very well done benefit for a very well deserving cause. We are helping our youth who hold the future in their hands. Even President Obama sent a letter that was read at the event.
Russell Simmons, Danny Simmons, Joseph "Rev. Run", Javier Evans, Tangie Murray and the entire Board of Directors should be commended for a job well done.
With over 900 people in attendance and a Buddhist color theme for peace and harmony the event was a tremendous success. Host Soledad O'Brien and Chairman and Co-founder Russell Simmons announced that $1,000,000 was raised before the doors to the tent opened!
Honorees included Mary J. Blige, Kimberly B. Davis, Dr. Oz Garcia, Tamara Mellon, OBE and Ed Norton. Guests were treated to performances by Jennifer Hudson, Miri Ben Ari and Lior Suchard with Star Jones as auctioneer.
It is always amazing for me to see an event come to it's fruition. I'm often sad to see an event end and rewarded to know that it was a success. The evening was wonderful. My thanks to Barry Klarberg for inviting me to be on the committee. One of my surprises came when dear friends James and Manuela Goren attended to support Art for Life after receiving the invitation. The good news is that the festivities are not over, everyone can still participate by biding on the auction until August 10th on Charity Buzz. So what are you waiting for? Hurry and get your bids in on a meet and greet with Justin Timberlake, Alec Baldwin, Gweneth Paltrow, Gayle King or perhaps art or a trip .....

2011 Great Chef's Dinner Benefiting the Hayground School: Isaac Mizrahi, Eric Ripert, Barry Sonnenfeld and Famous Chefs, July 31, 2011 : Bridgehampton, NY July 31, 2011. Barry Sonnenfeld a long time supporter of The Hayground School showed up to fund raise with his arm in a black sling after being injured filming a scene with Will Smith on MIB III. He was certainly a hit at the 7th Annual Chefs Dinner 2011, benefitting The Hayground School.
Sonnenfeld said that he was injured recently while shooting an action scene on MIB III, currently shooting in the Wall Street area. He laughed saying," It's true, Will Smith did it." Well, we are all excited about the film and that Barry was in such good spirits.

Hosts of the event were famous chef, Eric Ripert of Le Bernadin and his lovely wife Sandra along with Toni Ross and the Leon Levy Foundation. The ever charismatic Isaac Mizrahi was the Celebrity Guest 'Chef' along other world famous chef's. The line-up and the food made one's taste buds tingle. Some of the other chef's participating were Mark Forgione, Marc Meyer, Josh Capone, Jonathan Waxman, Harold Dieterle, Michael White, Gerry Hayden, Claudia Fleming, Jason Weiner, Bryan Futerman, and Michael White. It was one delicious dish after another.

Super Saturday 14, July 30, 2011 : SUPER SATURDAY 14, The Rolls-Royce of Garage Sales

With Kelly Ripa, Emma Roberts, Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman and InStyle

Watermill, N.Y., July 30, 2011. The windless over 90 degree temperature day did not stop the shoppers from attending the appropriately dubbed, "world famous Rolls-Royce of Garage Sales" held in the field at Nova's Ark Project in Watermill. This is an event that Hamptonites, mainly women, look forward to every year. Emma Roberts and Kelly Ripa along with Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman and InStyle hosted the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund's (OCRF) 14th annual Super Saturday event.

Dyson's stand sold out first, then Jimmy Choo. When I arrived, I only got to see the boxes of Jimmy Choo's that were purchased and awaiting pick-up. Over 200 prominent designers participated including Donna Karan, Pratesi, Ralph Lauren, Theory, Robert Rodriguez, Diane von Furstenberg, Juicy Couture, Elizabeth & James and many more. The Designers A to Zoe booth by Rachel Zoe featured designs from Kara Ross, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Elise Overland, Jean Paul Gautlier and others.

There was something for everyone. QVC made the event available to shoppers nationwide. Votra Vu French Spa Station helped comfort shoppers with skin care, people relaxed at the InStyle Cabana, the Color Club Color Bar offered manicures, the Home Market tent was a hit with discounted designer furniture. There were rides, games, arts & crafts, Wendy the Pipe Cleaning Lady, Face Painting, Balloons and entertainment for the children. There was food and drinks galore. Zico coconut water stations, Voss stations, a grand buffet, Crumbs cupcakes, teas and a delicious Sant Ambroeus spread of desserts.

My big break came when I was admiring the Haitian made photos that I am holding in the picture below at Donna Karan's booth. It was great to see DKNY supporting Haiti. Her booth was selling "Heart of Haiti" picture frames created from the ashes of Haiti. Shortly after taking this photo, a sales person said, "Everything at the DKNY booth is $25." I was shocked but quickly moved to action to seek out what I could grab that would fit me. How exciting, $25 for a $2500 gown! Now that is a good deal.

Super Saturday was created in 1998 by Donna Karan, the late Liz Tilberis and OCRF's President, Faith Kates Kogan. In 2010, Super Saturday raised $3.4 million for the OCRF.
Super Saturday 14 raised $3.5 million for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to help fund ovarian cancer research, a cancer that causes more than 15,000 deaths each year in the U.S. alone. To contribute or learn more go to www.ocrf.org.

Parrish Art Museum, Midsummer Party 7/9/11 : Parrish Art Museum, Midsummer Party, Farewell Jobs Lane, Hello Water Mill

Southampton, NY Saturday · July 9, 2011 · This year’s Midsummer Party honored the Parrish’s Founding Partners, an illustrious group of leading art patrons deeply committed to making the vision of the new Parrish Art Museum a reality. The evening is traditionally a way for many people to greet each other at the beginning of the summer season. This years party was special, as it was the last time the Midsummer Gala will be held at the Parrish Art Museum's location on Jobs Lane.

Founded in 1897, the current museum has a collection of more than 2,600 works of art from the 19th century to the present. In mid-2012, the museum will move to a 34,500 square foot facility in Water Mill.

The Midsummer Party is one of the most momentous events and the highlight of the Hamptons social season. Co-chairs of this dazzling evening are Parrish trustees Deborah Bancroft, Etta Froio, Dorothy Lichtenstein, Adam Sender, and David Wassong. After Ten Co-chairs are Josh Gaynor, Anne Huntington, Carolina Portago, Theodora Portago, and Serena Tufo.

For over a decade, the Founding Partners have provided leadership for the Parrish’s vision for a new era. These individuals and foundations have donated generously for endowments essential to curatorial and education programs, and for planning and construction of the new Herzog & de Meuron-designed facility in Water Mill.

Get Wild! The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons 8/20/11 : Get Wild! The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons

Southampton, N.Y. August 20, 2011. The yearly 'Get Wild' event allows us to see the dollars that The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center raises in action. Rescued and rehabilitated wildlife and handlers are present at the event. This year I had the pleasure of meeting a feisty red tailed hawk and an owl, who I was told is the fiercest predator on Long Island. I always look forward to hearing the stories about the animals. This years setting was at a magnificent ocean front estate. The event chairs were Avis Richards, Beth Ostrosky Stern and Marcy Warren. The Center, formerly known as The Wildlife Rescue Center, honors the late Evelyn Alexander. The organization has grown from a few friends to over 1,000 members and supporters in the past few years and is a not-for-profit hospital for wild animals. To learn more or to contribute go to www.wildliferescuecenter.org.

I arrived a bit late and missed a lot of people including Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky, Ellen and Chuck Scarborough, Joni and Christopher Fischer, Jean Shafiroff and others. You can view photos on www.timessquaregossip.com and www.societyallure.com.
