Mike Milken and Bonnie Pfeifer Evans Host the Charles Evans Prostate Cancer Foundation Pro/Am Tennis Tour, August 22, 2010 : Mike Milken Goes from 'Junk Bond King' to 'Medical Research King' The Charles Evans Prostate Cancer Foundation's 6th Annual Hampton's Pro/Am Tennis Invitational Benefiting The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), Hosts Bonnie Pfiefer-Evans and Mike Milken East Hampton, N.Y., August 22, 2010. Mike Milken founded The Prostate Cancer Foundation in 1993 after being diagnosed with the life threatening illness. The Foundation has helped build a global research enterprise of nearly $10 billion. Mike Milken has certainly made up for lost time by making the world a better place after the accusations against him so many years ago. He has saved a lot of lives, perhaps even the lives of those who incarcerated him. One cannot put a price on health. Personally, I have always been a fan of Milken's, having had the honor of knowing I.W. "Tubby" Burnham, Mike's old boss at Drexel Burnham Lambert many years ago. Tubby always spoke very highly of Mike, even after the fall of Drexel Burnham Lambert. I was hopeful that the 'true' story about what really happened would be told but my hopes faded when Tubby passed away on his yacht off the coast of Virginia at the age of 93. My son, Justin Pierce Galloway studied Mike Milken in his High School Investment Class and is a tennis player. He came along with me to today's exclusive event at The Ross School so we could support my friend, Bonnie Pfeifer-Evans, who lost her husband Charles Evans in 2007. Bonnie is a tremendous supporter of Mike's PCF through The Charles Evan's Foundation. Charles, an avid tennis player was committed to helping others. This foundation is a wonderful way to honor his memory. Bonnie introduced Justin to Mike and they spoke for about 10 minutes. I realized more of Mike Milken's brilliance as I listened to him conversing with my son. Mike is an excellent listener and took in everything Justin, who wants to pursue a career in the financial industry, spoke with him about. This was a very special afternoon for Justin, who's father, Bruce Galloway, was Managing Director at Burnham and Company several years ago. It is a very small world indeed. The PCF holds 4 tennis events annually, in Palm Beach, FL., Indian Wells, CA, Greenwich, CT., and East Hampton - collectively raising over $12.5 million. Pro's competing in this years event include: Jimmy Connors, The Jensen Brothers, Vince Spaeda, Justin Gimelstob (who injured his back and could not attend today's event), Jimmy Arias, Jared Palmer, Don Johnson, Johan Kreik and others. Andrea John (AJ) Catsimatidis and Christopher Nixon Cox's Engagement Celebration, August 28, 2010 : Andrea John (AJ) Catsimatidis and Christopher Nixon Cox Celebrate Engagement Southampton, August 28th, 2010. Margo and John Catsimatidis and Tricia and Ed Cox celebrated the engagement of their children. Christopher Nixon Cox, (Richard Nixon's grandson), son of Tricia Nixon and state GOP Chairman Ed Cox is a Republican candidate for Congress in New York. Andrea Catsimatidis, a member of NYU's class of 2012 graduated from New York's Hewitt School in 2008. She is the daughter of John and Margo Catsimatidis. Cox, 31, is running as a Republican on Long Island. The celebration took place under a huge white tent at The Greek Orthodox Church in Southampton. Guests stopped in throughtout the evening to wish the happy couple and families well. The evening was beautiful and warm wishes filled the air. A guest commented that it was the nicest evening he'd had in the Hampton's all summer because it was genuine. Jay Black and The Americas performed several hit songs followed by Ric Mango and his band. Tomaczek Bednarek surprised everyone when he sang a few bars of, "I Did It My Way". Rufus Wainright, Kylie Minogue, Australian Pop-Star perform "Last Songs of Summer" at The Watermill Center, August 28, 2010 : Rufus Wainright and Kylie Minogue Join Forces for "The Last Song of Summer" The 3rd Annual Watermill Center's Benefit Concert Water Mill, N.Y., August 28, 2010. What better place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon than a picnic-style concert on the amazing grounds of Robert Wilson's Watermill Center. Rufus Wainright and his special guest, Kylie Minogue, Australian pop super-star made a great duo as they belted out a combination of pop hits and folk songs. The Last Song of Summer, the Third Annual Watermill BenefitConcert, raised approximately $200,000 for the Watermill Center’s year-round international artist residencies and education programs. Robert Wilson was unable to attend as he was in Poland working on his next project. The sold out concert, with over 600 guests began with a set by Krystle Warren that included Central Park and Circles with Thomas Bartlett on piano. Rufus Wainwright took the stage next with a set that featured the following songs: Grey Gardens (dedicated to Kylie), Who are you New York from his latest studio album Songs for Lulu: All Days are Nights and Sonnet No. 20 from a collaboration with Watermill Center founder Robert Wilson. Rufus invited Kylie Minogue and a four piece band and full back up chorus to the stage next which they shared for Kylie's current single "All the Lovers", her older hit "Love At First Sight", Elton John's "Don’t Go Breaking My Heart", the Broadway classic If I Loved You from Roger & Hammerstein's Carrousel. As an encore they sang together Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and "Can't get you out of My Head" which got the entire audience up on their feet and wildly dancing and applauding. Rufus closed with "Somewhere over the Rainbow" accompanied by his aunt Jane McGarrigle dedicated to his late mother, folk legend, Kate McGarrigle. Many guests were seated picnic style on large custom made beach towels provided along with large black gift bags by Chanel. Guests included, Anjelica Huston, Mark Ronson, Klaus Biesenbach, Stephen and Christine Schwarzman, Andrey Bartenev, Ron & Amy Guttman, Roger Ferris, Jackie Rogers, Beth Swofford and Lisa de Kooning along with event co-chairs Lisa Anastos, Valerie Boster, Martin Dawson, Amanda Hearst, Shamim M. It's hard to believe that it's the last day of polo for the summer. Hampton's residents look forward to Saturday afternoon walks through VIP tent's, tail gate tents and socializing during the huge afternoon cocktail hour. Of course, they look forward to the polo too. Today was a special day as the season nears a close. Hampton's Magazine and media mogul Jason Binn sponsored closing day. Today's VIP guests included NBA star Dwyane Wade from "Miami Heat" was escorted to the opening ceremony as our host, by Jason Binn and Debrah Halpert of Niche Media. Actress, Gabrielle Union joined Dwyane Wade for photos later. Other VIP's included NASCAR's jeff Gordon, Wilmer Vladerrama (That 70's Show), Beth Ostrosky Stern, Richard Jefferson from the San Antonio Spurs, Alex McCord from The Housewives of NY and her family, Dr. Ruth Westheimer amongst others. I spotted NY Rangers Rod Gilbert, Ginger Alden with husband, director Ron Leyser, Tracey Stern from Salon Tea, Neal Sroka with Howard Lorbers son, Jean Shafiroff who just chaired a very successful event for Southampton Hospital with Sharon Bush from Texas, Steve Boxer "The Boxer Foundation", Missy Lubliner "Divorce Your Jewels " and many others. Every where I turned I saw someone accomplished. This week, DJ Solange Knowles kept the crowd going at the SWAGG Mobile Application Lounge. "Get Wild" To Benefit The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, August 21, 2010. : Marcy Warren and Beth Ostrosky Stern GET WILD, A Benefit for the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons August 21, 2010. Southampton, N.Y. The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons benefit was held at a beautiful private residence in Southampton today. Marcy Warren did a great job rallying people, including Beth Ostrasky Stern, animal rescue advocate, and Avis Richards to support this worthwhile event. Activities included face painting, live music, a magic show, arts and crafts, a silent auction, and games. LaSmooch.com was there with a van filled with ladies clothes. The most compelling attraction was the live animals who have been rescued by the center. We met an owl, hawk, falcon, snake and other animals that traveled to the event with volunteers trained by the center. I learned that we currently have a bald eagle nesting in West Hampton. The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons opened its doors to the public in June of 2000 and is located between Hampton Bays and Quogue. It has a fully operational wildlife hospital and examination room along with housing for patients who are recuperating. Wild Wild West Carnival, 21st Annual Family Day, Albert Einstein College of Medicine August 8, 2010 : Christie Brinkley's Smile Light's Up the 21st ANNUAL EINSTEIN FAMILY DAY, WILD, WILD WEST CARNIVAL BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y., August 8, 2010. Christie Brinkley graciously hosted the Wild, Wild West Carnival this year, as she has in past years as celebrity chairperson. Brinkley showed up with some family members including her daughter, Sailor Lee. The carnival, presented by Marquis Jet and the National Women's Division of Albert Einstein College of Medicine was held at The Ross Schools lower campus. There were pony rides, slides, games, cupcake decorating, face paint, hula hoop and water balloon contests, tug-of-war, a life size school bus for tumbling, live music, a raffle, silent auction, beverage tasting's, beading, etc. Name a fun activity for a kid and it was there, even potato sack races. Guests included Edie Falco, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff and Kelly Killoren Besimone with their children. An Enchanted Evening, Southampton Hospital, August 7, 2010. : An Enchanted Evening; Southampton Hospital's 52nd Gala Southampton, NY, August 7, 2010. Over 1000 guests attended the 52nd annual Southampton Hospital Gala held under the large white tents at its traditional location on Wickapogue and Old Town Roads. Jean Shafiroff was the chairperson of this illustrious event for the first time. Tonight's evening raised $1.72 million for the hospital. Most of this evenings proceeds will go to the state of the art new Emergency Room generously donated to the hospital by Jenny and John Paulson. The Paulson's donation was over $5 million. The hospital is the only hospital in the Southfork. The Emergency Room services about 27,000 people per year. I spend a lot of time nearby at my home. I am thrilled that the Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department is up and running. Barclay's Wealth was the Honorary Corporate chair and Tiffany and Company was the Honorary Jewelry Chair. Jean's necklace and earrings are both by Tiffany. Chuck Scarborough was the Master of Ceremonies. Governor Paterson showed up and was very willing to take photos with guests. Week 2 of the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Blue Star Jets Field, July 31, 2010 : MERCEDES-BENZ POLO CHALLENGE WEEK TWO at BLUE STAR JETS FIELD Bridgehampton, N.Y., July 31, 2010. Hamptonites look forward to attending polo in Bridgehampton on Saturday afternoons, the matches take place for six weeks. Bridgehampton polo has the reputation of being amongst the most exciting in the world. The prizes are the Mercedez Benz Cup and the Hamptons Cup. People flock to the grounds and the VIP tents. Adam Manson who's been getting a lot of press for his Panoramic View resort and Residences in Montauk showed up. Todd Rome from Blue Star Jets was there with his new wife and baby. Justin Mitchell from Social Life Magazine walked around a bit. The weather was in the 80's with a mild breeze, just right to enjoy polo. Some of this seasons partners are; Mercedes-Benz, SWAGG, Blue Star Jets, Ralph Lauren, Patron, La Societe Stella Artois, Smart Water, Coca-Cola and Hamptons Magazine. As far as VIP's, you never know who will show up for polo on any given Saturday. It is definitely a place to see and be seen. People watching is a main sport at this event, of course polo as well. It was particularly nice to meet Emma Snowdon-Jones who heads up Charity Water www.charitywater.org, a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Cheryl Mercuris is new to the Hampton's, a divorcee from Tampa who's gotten a lot of press in the NY Post for plunking down $500,000 for the two week rental of a major Hampton's home called Sandcastle. Yes, that's not a type-o TWO WEEKS for $500,000! They say she is a self made entrepreneur of a business called Quality Resources, a direct Marketing company, a real estate investor and a kind and generous woman and mother. Cheryl, if you decide to stay in the Hampton's longer, you can rent my house for the year for much less. MIchael Lohan, famous father of Lindsay, was out and about promoting his new reality show "CELEBRITY HOUSE NY". The show will feature on-line streaming 24/7 with him and a wide variety of characters living together in a house, rumor has it that the house has no bathrooms. Hmmmm, sounds interesting and unique. Of particular interest to the crowd visiting the Ralph Lauren shop at polo is entering to win a polo lesson with Ralph Lauren model and heart throb from the Black Watch team Nacho Figueras. Robert Wilson's, "Paradiso" - The 17th Annual Watermill Summer Benefit at The Watermill Center, July 24, 2010. : Watermill, NY July 24, 2010. "Paradiso," Robert Wilson's annual event and art extravaganza raised close to $1.4 million for the Center's year-round artist residency and education programs. The auction was led by none other that Simon de Pury. Some of the guests in attendance were Roger Waters, Sharon Stone, Alec Baldwin, Calvin Klein, Rufus Wainwright, Andres Balazs, Lou Reed, Fern Mallis, Richard Johnson, Miranda Richardson, Anne Hearst McInerney and Jay McInerney, Lisa Anastos, Eric Ripert,Nicole Miller, Tatiana and Campion Platt along with many artists and socials types from around the world. Guests were greeted by a snow monkey, amazed by dancers suspended by trees in pods, walked through a 30 foot fun house, a human tornado machine and captivated by the smell of scents that filled the air. This evening, Robert Wilson introduced WM, Paradiso Watermill Scent by Loc Dong. Wilson is always on the cutting edge of new art forms, having introduced VOOM (video photography) in 2004, forming Byrd Hoffman center for movement and theatre based art and many other achievements. His exploration of scentology as an art form is quite intriguing. A beautiful aroma filled the air leading down the path to the event. We were encouraged to use all of our senses. I learned that WM, Watermill Paradiso Scent was designed exclusively for Watermill by International Flavors and Fragrances sr designer Loc Dong. Parrish Art Museum's Summer Party, July 10, 2010. : Parrish Art Museum's Annual Midsummer Party Honoring Beth Rudin DeWoody and Ross Bleckner Saturday · July 10, 2010 Hamptonites anticipate the beautiful Parrish Art Museum's Midsummer Party every year. For me, it is a right of passage as my birthday is on July 12th, for many years I have celebrated my birth date with this extravaganza under the large white peaked tent on Jobs Lane. The century old tree surrounded by the tent in the main dining area is always a welcoming and familiar site, like an old friend with arms (branches) out stretched to greet us. Guests enjoyed press photos and greetings in The Parrish Art Museum surrounded by Rackstraw Downes: Onsite Paintings 1972-2008 before walking down the long, tent enclosed brick sidewalk to the main tent. The evenings Honoree's were Beth Rudin DeWoody and Ross Bleckner, two individuals whose lives exemplify an extraordinary commitment to the arts. Co-Chairs for the party were Deborah Bancroft and Dorothy Lichtenstein. Just about everyone showed up for this sold-out party. Parrish's annual gala is a social gathering of the Hamptons' most sophisticated art collectors, artists, socialites, entertainers, philanthropists and business leaders. Cocktails and dinner are usually attended by supporters and VIP's then at 10pm, true to tradition, after dinner, the elegant tent turned into one big dance floor with music by DJ Tom Finn....the lower price admission of $150 pp brought in a whole new crowd of partiers wanting to dance the night away. Desserts and drinks flowed as the crowd greeted the morning at 1am. This years guest list included Alan and Arlene Alda, Metropolitan Museum Trustee Gayle Perkins Atkins and attorney and investment banker Charles N. Atkins, art gallerist Mary Boone, Whitney and James Fairchild, James and Charlene Nederlander, Lisa de Kooning, Richard and Cessna Johnson, Steve Tanger, Sam Natapoff, Tatiana and Campion Platt, Parrish Trustees Ira and Gale Drukier and countless others.
